Assign Pro guide

Assignment Workflow

Assign Pro is built around a four-step workflow. The goal is to make static-group changes deliberate, reviewable, and easy to explain after the work is complete.

Step 1: CSV Upload

Import the prepared CSV file. Assign Pro reads identifiers from the first column after the header row.

Use the bundled template when possible. It keeps the input column text-formatted, which helps preserve serials, asset tags, and leading-zero values.

Step 2: Target Static Group

Choose the Jamf static group that should receive the update.

Use Refresh if static groups have changed in Jamf since you connected.

Step 3: Preview Matches

Preview Matches is a no-change lookup step.

Assign Pro checks each CSV entry against Jamf computers and separates entries into matched devices and items needing review. No static-group update is sent during preview.

Review the results before moving on. If the CSV is wrong, replace or clear it and preview again.

Step 4: Run Assignment

Choose the assignment mode:

  • Add matched devices to the selected static group.
  • Remove matched devices from the selected static group.

Run Assignment stays locked until the workflow has enough information to act safely. Assign Pro then shows a final confirmation before updating the static group.

After Completion

Review the result and activity console. Export logs if your organisation needs an operational record for the change.

Unmatched entries should be reviewed separately. They may reflect old identifiers, typing errors, stale inventory, or devices that are not currently visible to the API client.
