Assign Pro guide

Prepare the CSV Template

Assign Pro uses the first column of the CSV as the lookup input for Jamf computer matching.

Use The Bundled Template

Use the Template action inside Assign Pro to export the bundled workbook. The input area is text-formatted so values stay exactly as typed.

This matters for:

  • Serial numbers.
  • Asset tags.
  • Leading-zero identifiers.
  • Email or username identifiers.
  • Mixed identifier lists exported from another operational tool.

CSV Format

Prepare the file with:

  • A header row in the first row.
  • One identifier per row in the first column.
  • No client secrets, passwords, notes, or unrelated user data.
  • Consistent values copied from an approved source system.

Assign Pro ignores blank first-column values and deduplicates repeated entries after parsing.

Before Import

Check the file for:

  • Accidental extra sheets or exported report text.
  • Values pasted into the wrong column.
  • Hidden formatting that changes identifiers.
  • Old devices that no longer exist in Jamf.

Replacing A CSV

If you replace a CSV after previewing, Assign Pro resets the downstream preview and result state. This prevents the final assignment action from using results from an earlier file.
